we need to talk.

(me and you.  you=reader.  me=writer.  and sorry to the real person in this picture...)
you:  oh hey paige.  i like those animal print shoes that you have worn everyday this week.
me:  hey fella, i like these a lot alright.
you:  anyways...
me:  anyways isn't a word.  it's anyway.
you:  (eye roll) anyway...what should i do this weekend?
me:  (eyes widen) the real question is when will i ever find time to rest my poor feet because i will be spending so much time on them this weekend with all of the fun that i will be having?!  unless you are me. because of my animal print sandals, my feet are never tired.
you:  you lost me there in the middle for a minute but i found my way back.  so anyways..
me:  anyway
you:  anyway what's going on this weekend?
me:  well first you could go to the farmer's market that just started a few weeks ago.
you:  what?  i hate fresh grown vegetables and delicious honey that comes in plastic tubes!
me:  well you are lame but whatever.  okay i know!  taylorsville dayzz!!  it's my favorite holiday and easily the most exciting event on this side of 4700 south!
you:  taylorsville.  no way.  that city is full of gangsters and vacant buildings.
me: (this is where i beat you up because, like you said, my city is full of gangsters and they have taught me a few things over the years.)
you:  ouch.
me:  you have a point about the vacant buildings.  but don't worry.  imma fix that.  (true story.  more on that later).  but if you hate the ville than i don't want you ruining my favorite holiday with your foolishness.
you:  so that's it.  fresh food and celebrating vacancy?
me:  um hello?  have you not seen those awesome signs hanging all around slc?
you:  shame on you crown burger?
me:  what?  no.  the arts festival!  funnest festival in utah.  no question.
you:  oh you mean the festival with love music, sweet local art, delish food and a bike valet?  so there.
me:  ...did you just get that excited about bikes?  we need to talk seriously about bikes sometime...

to be continued.

master of suspense and his lowly wanna be.

today in my film class
all we talked about was mr. hitchcock.
who, by the way is totally brill, right?
right.

my teacher
{imagine the nicest person you have ever met,
then forget that...because that is the furthest thing from her real personality}
told us that hitchcock had heard that
audiences have a 7 second reaction time to
something frighteneing on screen.
alfred, the genius that he is,
came up with the idea that if you show the audience
something bad is going to happen before it happens
extends their "fright time" and gets them more involved.
perfect example seen here.

well guess what...
that piece of information about my man alfred
has nothing to do with the direction of my post.
instead
i just need you to know that i captured one of the scariest moments in history
on my trusty ol' flip a while back.

it was a regular saturday evening.
if i remember correctly
my minions and i drove up to slc
while jamming to the latest avril jam.
i showed them my secret city gems
and captured every moment on film.
we went to the only establishment that is
opened past 9 and legal for us to join in on the fun.
then edward cullen walked in.
and let's just say our night was cursed from then on out.
watch the freakishly pale guy
who's dressed like a character from a jane austin novel
{or stephanie meyer...i guess...forget i made the comparison}
behind cassie as she speaks in a japanese accent like a native...
watch this...
it's scary.
let it be known.
evil is lurking.
also know,
that i heart alfred hitchcock
and am aspiring to be just like him
in my humble flip vids
for your viewing pleasure.

gloomy and cloudy and puddles.

{me.  boots.  salt lake coffee shop.}
it's been raining here.  lots and lots.  lots as in utah is basically not a desert anymore.  i am not complaining.  the exact opposite in fact.  i love the rain.  the dancing, the darkness, the umbrellas, the coats, the splashing.  plus i have a legitimate reason to wear my favorite boots from my favorite store in my favorite city.

said favorite store is one i have tried to keep a secret for a while {except from her, because we have no fashion secrets...right m?!} but what kind of number one fan am i if i don't advertise advertise advertise?!!

so here we go.  you must visit one of my favorite shopping secrets in the fabulous salt lake city.

{a bit hidden but still very much there, the beauty that is misc.}
misc. (pronounced missy.) is a darling little shop full of apparel, collected by miss missy herself, from different estate sales from around the state.  we're talking 1960s and 70s era clothes, shoes, jewelry, and once i even saw a vintage barbie kitchen there.  it is an absolute goldmine.  last year, while amidst a black boot goose chase, i searched high and low for the perfect black leather boot for winter.  i was sorely disappointed with all of my options, until my staycation while i was walking down broadway and stumbled upon this quaint little shop.  that's when i saw them.  that is when i began to believe in a thing called love at first sight.  i walked out of that store an owner of vintage black leather knee length boots for $16 and have barely taken them off since.  in love,  i say.  so go there.  tell them i sent you.  they won't know who i am but tell them anyways.  it will be fun.  oh and then go to gourmandise and get a pastry and hot chocolate because you, my lovely, just enriched your life all thanks to misc. and me.

now go play in the rain.

staycation, all i ever wanted.

i like the idea
of being a visitor
in my hometown.
i like that idea so much
that i did so this weekend.

so me mom and dad
packed up the explorer and headed north.
ten minutes later
we unloaded the explorer
and checked into the
salt lake city marriott.
and the STAYcation began.

{with this as our view.}
next we dined
at a local fav
(aka my favorite restaurant)

  {red rock.}
we did a little swimming
watched a little golden globes (yay GLEE!}
ordered a little room service dessert
rented a little movie
and slept on the world's most comfortable beds
with the light of the
walker center sign
flashing outside our 9th floor window.

{i didn't mind since she's a beautiful sight, right?}

the next morning

  {after breakfast}
 we explored the city.

{i heart graffitied walls}

  {i heart utah.}

{confession:  i used to be afraid of antique shops, now i want an all antique lifestyle.
including my wedding ring from an antique jewelers, remember that future mr. paige.}

{still wish i would've stolen these lovlies.}

{new favorite store.}

{another staycation anyone?}

{cool.}

so it's final.
i am head over heels
in love
with
salt lake city.

haunted hometown.

my dad is so smart it's scary.  every year he makes up a halloween game for his office and every year he frightens me because of his whit.  this year he has blown me out of the water.  for the annual Transwestern halloween game he wrote "CSI in SLC".  the stories are haunting.  the stories take place in my hometown. and scariest of all, the stories are true.  so, to be festive, i want to spook you with a few of the true salt lake city hauntings by my creep master father.  warning:  if you love slc, just like i do, and want to continue doing so, but are easily scared, maybe you shouldn't read this.

 This mini mausoleum holds the remains of a successful Salt Lake City brewery owner.  The memorial stands several feet high with a door on the front of it that has a window.  Through the window the pieces of a broken urn can be seen.  Rumor has it that if you walk around the grave three times while chanting a three letter name, then look into the window, you will see the glowing red eyes of the deceased.  What cemetery is this grave located in and what is it commonly known as?

{salt lake city cemetery :  emo's grave}

This Salt Lake social club once had rooms on the top floor in which members could stay.  Many years ago a man fell asleep on the couch with a burning cigar in his hand.  Most of the top floor was consumed and the man died.  The soot from the fire can still be seen outside the top floor windows.  Many have seen the ghost of the man wandering the halls of the top floor.  There is also a ghost in the basement that touches one lightly on the shoulder.  With this ghost comes a strong smell of lilac perfume.  What is the name of the building?
{the alta club}

This Salt Lake City building was constructed in 1910 on the west side of the city.  The most famous ghost there is a woman in a purple dress from another period.  As the story goes, this woman was engaged to a handsome young man.  The lady would come to Salt Lake by train to see her fiancĂ©.  One day they had a terrible argument and the young man threw the engagement ring on the railroad tracks.  As the woman hurried to retrieve it, she was hit by a train and killed.  She has been haunting the building ever since.  Late at night, when the building is closed, people outside have witnessed lights in the basement going on and off.  What building is this?
{the rio grande depot}

A strange headstone is that of Lily Gray. She married Elmer Gray when she was 72 years old.  Other than the eerie inscription on the headstone taken from the Book of Revelation, there are two other curious aspects of the headstone.  Lily’s legal name was spelled “L-I-L-Y”.  On the headstone it is spelled “L-I-L-L-Y”.  A Elmer is buried in the same cemetery, but far from his wife.  In what cemetery is this headstone and what is the eerie inscription to which I have referred?            {salt lake city cemetary : victim of the beast 666}

This Salt Lake City home was constructed in 1900 at a cost of $1 million.  The family moved out in 1920 after the children were grown.  The home has been used as a music school, dance school, and reception center since.  There have been many reports of a male spirit who often appears to individuals in the house when they are alone. There is also a ghost of a young girl who regularly appears.  She resembles a girl in a picture hanging on the wall of the home.  She has been seen going into and coming out of a mirror on the West side of the home.  She wears a gown similar to the dancing gowns worn by the dance school girls.  What is this building?
{the mccune mansion}

are you scared?  i am.
happy hauntings.
