festively, i think there is a ghost following me.

i'll tell you 3 things and you try to explain them without coming to the conclusion that i have my own personal casper with me today.

1.  my zipper, inexplicably, remained down for the better half of my entire day.  that always happens to me!
2.  while in the library, i got in an empty elevator, pressed the "3" button and the ">/<"  button quickly {i hate riding in elevators with others...it just feels weird.  i know you agree.  even you, dad...the man who doesn't believe in awkward moments i guess}.  as the doors began to close, they suddenly stopped and rushed back open as if someone was trying to catch the elevator with me.  noBODY stepped inside so i fully expected to feel some sort of presence of my special invisible ghost friend, like tapping on my shoulder or a gust of wind, but this ghost obviously knows me, and my personal space issues, so decided to keep to itself as we rode to the third floor in silence.
3.  i can't seem to get rid of this ugly, hairy, black with a red dot spider that has chosen my mode of transportation as it's winter home.  and to me spiders=ghost presence.

go ahead, try to tell me that i am overreacting!  i'm not.

happy halloween.

from paige and sweetheart (i named my ghost.  anything other than toby is fine...)

festivity is important to me.

we three fools have an october bucket list,
a "what to do before halloween comes" list,
a "hallospookomurderotacular" list.
here it is:
  1. go to park city.  because nothing says spooky like overpriced boutiques and premature snow.
  2. 13 nights of halloween.
  3. salt lake cemetary.  last time we went there to spook our friends, ben almost got arrested.  long story.  so that is good.
  4. haunted homes {plural for haunted house}
  5. gravity hill.  still trying to figure that one out.
  6. carve jack o'lanterns.  i'll probably stick with the classic.
  7. murder a byu student...wait what?  must've been ben's entry.  he goes too far every time.  what he meant was...
  8. prank all of provo utah.
  9. walk to scary rock canyon cave.
  10. "redrum" car windows belonging to the un-festive.  warning to you all.
only 15 more days to finish!
midterms can wait.
we have some spooky stuff to do.

remind me.

as a rather large winnie the pooh fan as a child, i don't remember pooh bear being such a hopeless romantic/philosopher of life and all things that are lovely and praiseworthy.  do you?
if so, i was raised hearing some beautiful insight on life and love...which is why i don't think that pooh bear ever said these things.  but maybe.
speaking of pooh bear, i'd like a baby for halloween so i can hold something this adorable for the holidays.
 and yes.
it took a few little whiles for me to realize this is a doll.
not a real live baby.
doesn't make it any less presh.
happy ween y'all.

spooky spook.

{whoa scary.}

i enjoy a good fright.
i do.
really.
so, natch, one of my favorite holidays is
halloween.
but i am in a bit of a pickle.
what should i be?
courtney suggested boo from monsters inc.
good.
cassie suggested being a navi.
semi-scandalous
i suggested a pregnant nun to a pregnant girl at work.
joke didn't go over as well as i had hoped.
so you tell me, my lovelies,
what should i be for halloween?

p.s.
check out my scary pumpkin.

the caffeine scared of all the byu kiddies.
{also notice that d.c. stands for two of my favorite things..
diet coke and district of columbia.
 i now understand why my sista is serving there...
it's all so clear to me now.}

where the good stuff is.

{too true.}
once, when i was small, like really really small, like before i went to school small, my mom took me to arctic circle for lunch.  i loved that place at halloween 2 for reasons:

1.  pumpkin milkshakes {mama and i are all things pumpkin in the month of october.  always have been, always will be.}
2.  best kid meal halloween toys.

so this day that mom took me to a.c. and i got me some pumpkin milkshake and a kid meal.  with that kid meal came the greatest toy a kid meal could come with.  a flashlight.  a halloween, trick or treat flashlight, the kind with lots of little plastic sticks that light up at the top {i know.  that is the worst description ever and you will never know what i went through to get a visual aide to enhance this awful description. anyway that description will do for now, okay?}  mom also got a meal for courtney, meaning another cool, flashlight, trick or treating treat as well.  as usual, i thought this was fantastic.  i couldn't wait for courtney to get home from school and see this awesome flashlight that we were going to use while trick or treating.  finally she came home, smelling like vista elementary {i trust any former vista lions to know exactly what smell i am referring to right now} and i ran downstairs to get the flashlight.  as i ran back to her, i did something that i always did as a child {and may or may not still do as a bigger child}, i tripped up the stairs.  the flashlight flew out of my hands, crashed to the ground, and snapped off every single plastic light stick on my cool new trick or treating flashlight.  i was devastated.  now what was going to separate me from the other trick or treaters in the neighborhood?! but courtney did what she always does.  she helped me up, wiped my tears, and told me that it was okay.  she even game me her flashlight to trick and treat with while she used the broken, significantly less cooler version.  and i will always love halloween because of that day.  and the pumpkin flavor explosion.  and scary movies.  and dressing up.  and getting candy.  and so on...

all hallow's eve.

confession.  i would give anything to be a small child again.  mainly because i wish it was still socially acceptable to knock on doors, beg for candy, and actually receive it.  tell me it wasn't fantastic, back in the day, to dress up and go out for the night only to come back with a orange bag filled with delicious-ness.  halloween was a dream come true back then.  then again, i am legally an adult and still i spent my night wearing a costume and slowly killing myself with butterfingers.  so maybe adulthood isn't that bad after all.

{me in a little $6 di find and lib looking as fabulous as always.}

like the wise sister wightman says "you won't always be young, but you can be immature forever."

i love that.

oh!  me and papa wightman carved pumpkins this weekend.  and oh it was so good!

{i love this man right here}

it kills me a little when my dad says,
"i am so happy that our tradition continued even though my girls are gone."
or
"i can't wait to carve pumpkins with your babies."

don't worry dad,
me and sister wightman are firm believers in
being immature forever.
(and we can't wait for bringing the nuggets
over to carve pumpkins with papa wightman...
someday.)
let the traditions live forever.
happy november.

p.s.  watch this.

jack o lantern joy.

tonight i am carving pumpkins.  with my mom and dad.  well with my dad.  my mom doesn't believe in defacement of innocent vegetables.  this is what mine will look like...

this.

or this.

or hopefully this.

but just like every year
it will most likely look

this good.

oh and if you see any of
hideous creatures
you have my permission to destroy them.

happy halloween!

haunted hometown.

my dad is so smart it's scary.  every year he makes up a halloween game for his office and every year he frightens me because of his whit.  this year he has blown me out of the water.  for the annual Transwestern halloween game he wrote "CSI in SLC".  the stories are haunting.  the stories take place in my hometown. and scariest of all, the stories are true.  so, to be festive, i want to spook you with a few of the true salt lake city hauntings by my creep master father.  warning:  if you love slc, just like i do, and want to continue doing so, but are easily scared, maybe you shouldn't read this.

 This mini mausoleum holds the remains of a successful Salt Lake City brewery owner.  The memorial stands several feet high with a door on the front of it that has a window.  Through the window the pieces of a broken urn can be seen.  Rumor has it that if you walk around the grave three times while chanting a three letter name, then look into the window, you will see the glowing red eyes of the deceased.  What cemetery is this grave located in and what is it commonly known as?

{salt lake city cemetery :  emo's grave}

This Salt Lake social club once had rooms on the top floor in which members could stay.  Many years ago a man fell asleep on the couch with a burning cigar in his hand.  Most of the top floor was consumed and the man died.  The soot from the fire can still be seen outside the top floor windows.  Many have seen the ghost of the man wandering the halls of the top floor.  There is also a ghost in the basement that touches one lightly on the shoulder.  With this ghost comes a strong smell of lilac perfume.  What is the name of the building?
{the alta club}

This Salt Lake City building was constructed in 1910 on the west side of the city.  The most famous ghost there is a woman in a purple dress from another period.  As the story goes, this woman was engaged to a handsome young man.  The lady would come to Salt Lake by train to see her fiancĂ©.  One day they had a terrible argument and the young man threw the engagement ring on the railroad tracks.  As the woman hurried to retrieve it, she was hit by a train and killed.  She has been haunting the building ever since.  Late at night, when the building is closed, people outside have witnessed lights in the basement going on and off.  What building is this?
{the rio grande depot}

A strange headstone is that of Lily Gray. She married Elmer Gray when she was 72 years old.  Other than the eerie inscription on the headstone taken from the Book of Revelation, there are two other curious aspects of the headstone.  Lily’s legal name was spelled “L-I-L-Y”.  On the headstone it is spelled “L-I-L-L-Y”.  A Elmer is buried in the same cemetery, but far from his wife.  In what cemetery is this headstone and what is the eerie inscription to which I have referred?            {salt lake city cemetary : victim of the beast 666}

This Salt Lake City home was constructed in 1900 at a cost of $1 million.  The family moved out in 1920 after the children were grown.  The home has been used as a music school, dance school, and reception center since.  There have been many reports of a male spirit who often appears to individuals in the house when they are alone. There is also a ghost of a young girl who regularly appears.  She resembles a girl in a picture hanging on the wall of the home.  She has been seen going into and coming out of a mirror on the West side of the home.  She wears a gown similar to the dancing gowns worn by the dance school girls.  What is this building?
{the mccune mansion}

are you scared?  i am.
happy hauntings.
