my dad is so smart it's scary. every year he makes up a halloween game for his office and every year he frightens me because of his whit. this year he has blown me out of the water. for the annual Transwestern halloween game he wrote "CSI in SLC". the stories are haunting. the stories take place in my hometown. and scariest of all, the stories are true. so, to be festive, i want to spook you with a few of the true salt lake city hauntings by my creep master father.
warning: if you love slc, just like i do, and want to continue doing so, but are easily scared, maybe you shouldn't read this.

This mini mausoleum holds the remains of a successful Salt Lake City brewery owner. The memorial stands several feet high with a door on the front of it that has a window. Through the window the pieces of a broken urn can be seen. Rumor has it that if you walk around the grave three times while chanting a three letter name, then look into the window, you will see the glowing red eyes of the deceased. What cemetery is this grave located in and what is it commonly known as?
{salt lake city cemetery : emo's grave}
This Salt Lake social club once had rooms on the top floor in which members could stay. Many years ago a man fell asleep on the couch with a burning cigar in his hand. Most of the top floor was consumed and the man died. The soot from the fire can still be seen outside the top floor windows. Many have seen the ghost of the man wandering the halls of the top floor. There is also a ghost in the basement that touches one lightly on the shoulder. With this ghost comes a strong smell of lilac perfume. What is the name of the building?
{the alta club}
This Salt Lake City building was constructed in 1910 on the west side of the city. The most famous ghost there is a woman in a purple dress from another period. As the story goes, this woman was engaged to a handsome young man. The lady would come to Salt Lake by train to see her fiancé. One day they had a terrible argument and the young man threw the engagement ring on the railroad tracks. As the woman hurried to retrieve it, she was hit by a train and killed. She has been haunting the building ever since. Late at night, when the building is closed, people outside have witnessed lights in the basement going on and off. What building is this?
{the rio grande depot}
A strange headstone is that of Lily Gray. She married Elmer Gray when she was 72 years old. Other than the eerie inscription on the headstone taken from the Book of Revelation, there are two other curious aspects of the headstone. Lily’s legal name was spelled “L-I-L-Y”. On the headstone it is spelled “L-I-L-L-Y”. A Elmer is buried in the same cemetery, but far from his wife. In what cemetery is this headstone and what is the eerie inscription to which I have referred? {salt lake city cemetary : victim of the beast 666}
This Salt Lake City home was constructed in 1900 at a cost of $1 million. The family moved out in 1920 after the children were grown. The home has been used as a music school, dance school, and reception center since. There have been many reports of a male spirit who often appears to individuals in the house when they are alone. There is also a ghost of a young girl who regularly appears. She resembles a girl in a picture hanging on the wall of the home. She has been seen going into and coming out of a mirror on the West side of the home. She wears a gown similar to the dancing gowns worn by the dance school girls. What is this building?
